The Gates of Paradise

The Gates of Paradise is the main focal gate of the Baptistry of Florence (Battistero di San Giovanni), situated in front of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. The Porta del Paradiso, in Italian, was made by Florentine goldsmith and artist Lorenzo Ghiberti somewhere in the range of 1425 and 1452 and introduced in the eastern gateway of the Baptistery. The Gates have been lauded by ages of specialists and craftsmanship antiquarians for their convincing depiction of scenes from the Old Testament. Over the long haul, the seventeen-foot-tall, three-ton bronze entryways turned into a symbol of Renaissance, perhaps the most celebrated show-stoppers on the planet.
