There are two large statues one is a replicate of Michelangelo's David and another one is Hercules and Cacus by Baccio Bandinelli (1488-1560) outside the main entrance to the Palazzo Vecchio stand. To adversary Michelangelo's achievements as a sculptor was one of the main thrusts of Bandinelli's life and here we can see the degree to which he accomplished that aspiration. The statue of Hercules and Cacus was commissioned by Clement VII (r. 1523-34) in 1525, the second individual from the Medici family to become pope. Notwithstanding, before Bandinelli started work, the Medici faction were again removed from the city and supplanted by the last blooming of the Florentine republic (1527-30).
