Elche, or Elx, is a town situated in the comarca of Baix Vinalopó. As indicated by the 2014 census, Elche has a populace of some 228,647 inhabitants (called il·licitans in Valencian and ilicitanos in Spanish), positioning as the third most populated city in the Valencian Community (after Valencia and Alicante) and the twentieth largest Spanish city.Part of the region is coastal yet the fundamental city is some 11km from the Mediterranean Sea. A small brook called Vinalopó flows through the city splitting it in two parts. HistoryLa Alcudia is 10 km from the current city's area and the prompt predecessor of current day Elche.
