Calton Hill and the National Monument are located in Central Edinburgh, east of Edinburgh's New Town. Marked as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Calton Hill has some of the city's excellent perspectives and if you stand up early, the excellent sunrises. Calton Hill is also resident to some iconic Scottish monuments and buildings. Monuments consist of the National Monument, Dugald Stewart Monument, Nelson's Monument, the Old Royal High School, Robert Burns Monument, Political Martyrs' Monument and also the City Observatory. Nelson Monument stands atop along side Edinburgh's Disgrace. Calton Hill is one in all Edinburgh's seven predominant hills. It is unmistakable with its Athenian acropolis and the Nelson Monument rearing above the skyline. The pinnacle of Calton hill is mostly quiet vicinity to visit on any day, with its grassy slopes and panoramic views of the city, which includes down the length of Princes road (the primary buying thoroughfare) and Edinburgh Castle. In August, Calton Hill is a hub for Edinburgh festival shows; it offers wonderful perspectives of fireworks shows from the citadel throughout Hogmanay and the grand finale of the Edinburgh Festival, the Festival Fireworks.
